Step into the heart of Dartmoor for a truly personal photographic experience. My 1-1 workshops are designed to give you the rare chance to spend meaningful time with the herds and capture powerful, natural images of the ponies in their home landscape.
These are not staged encounters — this is real, observational photography rooted in patience, respect, and understanding. Guided by my ethos of Observation, not Orchestration, I’ll help you see Dartmoor and its ponies with a photographer’s eye — and walk away with images full of truth and emotion.

Bespoke 1-1 Guidance
Whether you’re just starting out or an experienced photographer, we’ll tailor the day to your level and goals. I’ll help you get the most out of your camera — technically and creatively — and tune your eye to the rhythm of the ponies and the land. -
Time with the Herds
We’ll spend unhurried time with Dartmoor’s semi-wild ponies, observing their behaviour, reading the light and landscape, and photographing them without intrusion. -
Mastering the Moment
From anticipating movement to understanding the gaits and body language of horses, you’ll learn when and how to shoot for the most natural and powerful images — while maintaining the ponies’ trust and space. -
Technical Support On the Moor
We’ll cover camera settings, lens choice, composition, and how to adapt to Dartmoor’s ever-changing light. My own approach leans towards wide apertures and longer focal lengths — not just for aesthetic reasons, but to preserve the natural form and flow of the horse.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a solid understanding of what to look for and how to capture exceptional horse photographs.
